NEVER NEVUS

Infant sleeps with softened brow
His face a mask he cannot know
'Less he awake and see in our stare
The burden we suffer and he must bear.

Times past the half-mask might come to be
Gift of clown or a mark of wisdom to see
But we have wondrous technology
Lasers, grafts a gift for normalcy.

Benign melanocytes cluster his face
This random act we grant no place.
Medical marvels can cut and splice
When our acceptance exacts too high a price.

Oddness we suffer betwixt death and birth
Relief of pain should not relieve it's worth.
